About Justin

I'm Justin Zoccolillo, a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDNP) and Microbiome Clinical Science Practitioner (MCSP). Before I ever coached anyone else, I had to figure out how to get my own health back. This page is that story.

My Story

I remember the call that changed everything. I was lying in bed, isolated from the world, when my phone rang. I had almost no energy, and even thinking about what I needed to do next felt overwhelming. Then I heard the words I had been dreading from my boss. My performance was no longer meeting his expectations, and he had made the decision to terminate my employment. I remember the deep devastation I felt as I listened to him explain why. This was a job I loved, and I had worked incredibly hard to get there. But somewhere along the way, I had pushed myself past the point where my health could keep up. I didn't have the energy, mental clarity, or mood I needed to rebuild what I had lost. Everything I had worked so hard to build suddenly felt like it had crumbled around me. Lying there in that room, I realized that I couldn't keep trying to push through it on my own. I needed help.

Looking back, the signs had been there for years. I started life healthy and happy, but things changed when I got to college and began pushing myself harder and harder. Fast food became convenient because I was busy and needed to save time. Sleep became something I could sacrifice because there was always more to do. Caffeine became my way of creating energy when I didn't have enough of my own. Then I moved into my career as an audio engineer in Los Angeles and pushed myself even harder. I worked long hours, chased my career goals, and burned the candle at both ends with my social life. I thought I was doing what successful people were supposed to do. But by my 30s, I started noticing that something wasn't right. I was dealing with ongoing fatigue, brain fog, moodiness, and digestive problems, and over time those problems became harder to ignore.

"When your health is holding you back, simply trying harder isn't always the answer."

As my symptoms got worse, my performance at work got worse too. I didn't have the same drive, focus, or energy that I once had. Even the things I used to enjoy socially started feeling like too much work. Eventually, I began isolating myself because I simply didn't have the energy to keep up with life. I started looking for answers everywhere I could. I saw doctors, searched the internet for hours, tried popular diets, followed health trends, bought supplements, and tried to figure out what I was doing wrong. Instead of finding clarity, I found more conflicting information and more trial and error. Some of the medical treatments I tried made me feel worse, while other approaches gave me temporary results at best. The more I searched, the more confused I became. And the more I tried to push through, the further behind I felt. That experience taught me something I wish I had understood much earlier: when your health is holding you back, simply trying harder isn't always the answer.

That realization eventually led me to Functional Diagnostic Nutrition and a different way of looking at health. Instead of chasing one symptom at a time, I learned the importance of looking at the whole person and using whole-body health-building principles to understand what may be contributing to the way someone feels. The foundational lab testing included in my FDN training gave me a way to start connecting the information I was seeing with my own experience instead of continuing to guess. After years of searching, I finally had a steady path forward. That experience changed the direction of my life and ultimately led me to become a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDNP) and Microbiome Clinical Science Practitioner (MCSP).

Today, I use that same approach to help high-stress professionals who are tired of feeling tired, foggy, and irritable. My goal isn't to give you another generic health plan and send you on your way. It's to help you understand your health, build a personalized path forward, and regain the energy and clarity you need to show up fully for your career, your relationships, and your life. If you're ready to stop guessing and start building a steadier path toward better health, book a call with me and let's talk about where you are and where you want to go.

Why Functional Health Coaching

Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® is a health-coaching approach, not a medical specialty. Instead of treating each complaint as its own isolated problem, we look at the bigger picture: your history, your lifestyle, your nutrition, and, when it's appropriate for your case, functional lab testing, which I can order directly as part of the framework.

That bigger picture is the point. A generic plan asks you to fit its template. This approach is designed to build the plan around you, then adjust it based on how you actually respond.

One honest note before you read further: this is coaching, not medical care. I don't diagnose or treat any medical condition, and outcomes vary from person to person and no specific result is promised. Working this way may help you understand the patterns behind how you feel, but your own physician should always be part of any decision about medications or supplements. You can read the full health disclaimer here.

How I Work With You

Coaching is 1:1 and fully virtual. I work with clients across the United States. You book through Practice Better, we meet over Zoom, and we work together for 16 weeks through three phases. Notice the shape of the timeline below: the middle phase is twice as long as the others, on purpose. Rebuilding takes longer than revealing or refining.

  • Reveal, weeks 1–4. We gather your story, your health and lifestyle history, and relevant data, so we're working from real information instead of guesses.
  • Rebuild, weeks 5–12. The longest phase, on purpose. This is where your personalized plan gets built and put into practice, step by step, without overwhelming your week.
  • Refine, weeks 13–16. We look at what's working, adjust what isn't, and set you up to keep going on your own.
